Though it was not assigned this week, I enjoy perusing the
LibGuides developed by Academic Libraries.
There were a few LibGuides that did not offer very much assistance to
those studying Anthropology. One in particular simply presented some databases
to use as a starting point. While this
is important, many academic libraries already offer guides that direct students
to databases based on their particular research need.
One particular LibGuide that stood out was the Sierra
College Lib Guide for Physical Anthropology.
It utilizes faceted searching to provide easy searching for
students. The last tab “Get Helps”
presents Jon Torkelson, the referene librarian. This LibGuide was last updated
October 8, 2013. Separating the sources
of information, books, films, website, articles is helpful to students
searching for a particular type of information.
This is another LibGuide to reference in the future!
